Written on the palm of the hand is the story of your fate. The fate of a city is written in the configuration of its geographical features. The passage of time is marked by events in river and valley, hill and plain.
City of Hands considers the similarities between the lives of cities and individuals, and the events that figure their lifespans.

The marks such events leave, and the prefiguration of events by the disposition of metaphysical or physical geography parallel one another in the lines of a palm and the plain upon which "there stands a city".
